The Tarrangower Cactus Control Group Inc. was very excited to have Lisa Chesters, Federal MP for Bendigo, as our special guest to open this year’s season in April.

Whilst ‘cutting the ribbon’ Lisa commented that she used to be very involved in Landcare in her younger days, and is well aware of what a vital role Landcare volunteers play in protecting our environment. She then spent the morning helping our ‘cactus warriors’ to kill some wheel cactus plants in a particularly bad area of infestation. The pleasant morning in the sunshine was complete with our usual delicious BBQ and a special treat for our special guest, scones with ‘wheel cactus’ jam!

Our Community Field Days are held on the last Sunday of the month from April to November. We demonstrate how best to kill these plants and provide equipment to destroy them. We spend a very rewarding morning in the beautiful outdoors and always finish with a delicious and friendly BBQ. For information on the location of our field days and much more, please contact Ian on 0412 015 807.
